Isolated heavy rain likely in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Tuesday's depression has moved westwards and weakened into a well marked low pressure area and lies over Gulf of Mannar.

Under its influence northeast monsoon has been vigorous over Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Rainfall occurred at most places over Tamil Nadu and at many places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

The following stations recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall in cm.: Tirupathi airport 21, Thozhudur (Cuddalore dt.) 17, Panruti (Cuddalore dt.), Ulundurpet (Villupuram dt.) and Dindigul 15 each, Srimushnam and Virudhachalam (Cuddalore dt.), Kallakurichi and Thanjavur 14 each, Devakottai 13.

Forecast (Valid until Friday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry at many places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep and at a few places over coastal Karnataka. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and north interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over Telangana.

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places with isolated very heavy rain over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain is also likely to occur over south interior Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Nellore and Chittur districts of Andhra Pradesh during the same period.
