Pondicherry: A. Kasilingam, MLA has called upon the administration to provide houses for the tsunami-hit fishermen in Solai Nagar and Vaithikuppam hamlets in his Muthialpet constituency. Kasilingam, a former Social Welfare Minister said he had presented petitions to the government in this regard but nothing had been done to relieve the fishermen families of their hardship. These families were now homeless following the extensive havoc the tsunami caused in the coastal belt. He said fish vendors (retailers) were also yet to be given the financial assistance of Rs. 3000. Women were particularly left in the lurch and the promise of Rs. 3000 as relief should be available to them without delay. He also urged the Chief Minister to provide cash compensation to the owners of mechanised and fibreglass boats which were lost in the havoc.
