Award for translated work announced

The Kamala Goenka Foundation of Mumbai has instituted the award

BANGALORE: The Kamala Goenka Foundation of Mumbai here on Wednesday announced a new award for the best literary translation either from Hindi to Kannada or from Kannada to Hindi. The award will be presented from 2006.

Addressing presspersons here, Shyam Sunder Goenka, Managing Trustee of the foundation, said the "Pitashree Gopiram Goenka Hindi-Kannada Translation Award" would be given in prose or poetry.

The foundation had decided to institute the award for promoting Kannada and Hindi translated literature and it carried a purse of Rs. 21,000, a citation and a shawl, Mr. Goenka said.

Entries

The foundation had invited entries from literary translators of Hindi and Kannada.

The eligibility criteria would be literary translation works published during the last 10 years, 1996-2005.

The applicant had to submit a proposal form along with four copies each of his published translated book and the original book which had been translated, with his biographic data and two photographs on or before January 2006 at the Bangalore office.

Literary awards

Mr. Goenka pointed out that the foundation had instituted several literary awards, including "Snehalata Goenka Vyangya Bhushan Puraskar" for the best satire, Ratnidevi Goenka Vagdevi Samman" for women Hindi litterateurs and "Babulal Goenka Hindi Sahitya Samman" for Hindi literary work by non-Hindi speaking writers.

Noted Kannada playwright Chandrashekar Kambar was present.
