Health camp not conducted: department

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Director, Health and Family Welfare Services, M.G. Prasad, has clarified that his department did not conduct the health camp in which a man died at Nagenahally Tandya in Pavagada taluk of Tumkur district on Tuesday.

Dr. Prasad said in a statement here on Wednesday that no health camp was organised by the department. However, radical treatment was given to patients of Nagenahally Tandya under a time-bound programme since many suffered from malaria. There would be side-effects if these drugs were taken on an empty stomach. A few such cases were also treated in the village. The deceased, Govinda Naik alias Lakshman Naik, was an alcoholic and was also suspected to be suffering from cirrhosis, he said. Dr. Prasad said his department had sent a team of programme officers and specialists to the village.
