Two robbed of Rs. 4 lakhs

Second robbery case in 15 days

BANGALORE: An armed gang on Tuesday night attacked two brothers, both cloth merchants, and robbed them of Rs. 4 lakhs in cash.

The police said that around 9.30 p.m., Harakchand and his brother Santosh, who own a cloth shop in Chickpet, were returning home in Cubbonpet. Four men waylaid the two brothers who were riding a motorcycle near their house.

They stabbed Harakchand in the back and robbed the two of a bag containing cash, the police said. The Ulsoor Gate police have registered a case. This is second such robbery in Ulsoor Gate police station limits.

On November 9, two armed youths robbed a jeweller of gold ornaments and silver articles estimated at Rs. 1.10 lakhs and Rs. 25,000 in cash at knifepoint in Ganigarpet.

Two robbed

A five-member gang robbed Lokesh and his friend of Rs. 470 and a wristwatch in Jnanabharathi police station limits on Tuesday afternoon. The police said the robbers waylaid Lokesh and his friend at Papareddypalya and robbed them at knifepoint. As the victims raised an alarm, passers-by chased the robbers and caught one of them. He was identified as Vinod Kumar.

Arrested

The Hennur police have arrested E. Seetharaman alias Cheetah, an accused in several criminal cases, and his five accomplices on charges of extorting money from landowners and settling real estate deals.

The police said Seetharaman (37) of Kacharakanahalli, who was an accused in murder, robbery, extortion and kidnapping cases, had served life sentence. On being released from jail, he had formed a gang and was running extortion rackets, the police said. The names of his accomplices were given as V. Rajan (26) of Nagavara, V. Venkatswamy (32) of Devarajeevanahalli, M. Anjaneya (30) of Banasawadi, Aslam Pasha (33) of Lingarajapuram, and J. Suresh Babu (32) of HBR Layout.

House burgled

Thieves entered the house of Murthy in Srigandhanagar on Tuesday and made away with a colour television set and other articles. The Rajagopalanagar police have registered a case.
