Three projects for Delhi approved

NEW DELHI: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening infrastructure facilities in the Capital, the Expenditure Finance Committee on Wednesday approved the proposal for an escalator-equipped foot-over bridge on Ring Road at the ISBT crossing, widening of Ring Road from Azadpur to Britania Chowk and construction of a signature bridge over the Yamuna at Wazirabad costing Rs. 475 crores.

Fire in school bus

NEW DELHI: Two students of Delhi Public School, Dwarka, sustained minor burns when the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus in which they were travelling caught fire at Sagarpur T-point in West Delhi on Wednesday. The driver and the conductor of the bus also sustained burns.

The incident occurred around 7-15 a.m. when the bus was ferrying students to school. At Sagarpur T-point, the engine suddenly caught fire. Mahima, a Class V student, and Varnika, a Class VII student, sustained minor injuries. The bus driver, Harkishan, and conductor, Shant Ram, also sustained minor burns while trying to put out the fire.

The bus was immediately evacuated.

Three arrested

NEW DELHI: Three persons were arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police on Tuesday after 1 kg of smack was allegedly recovered from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that three men would come with a smack consignment from Bhopal, the police laid a trap near Apollo Hospital and arrested them. They were identified as Faiz Khan, Syed Faizal Ali and Istikhar.

Attempt-to-murder case: One held

NEW DELHI: A person allegedly wanted by the Haryana police in connection with an attempt-to-murder case was arrested by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch on Tuesday.

The accused, Sasan Kumar, was arrested in Najafgarh in South-West Delhi. The Haryana police have been informed of the arrest.

Housing project

NEW DELHI: Delhi is considering the Mumbai example of providing housing to the urban poor, in which slum dwellers have been rehabilitated free of cost in multi storeyed tenements built by commercial developers.

The National Real Estate Development Committee (NREDC), which designed the project in Mumbai, made a presentation to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the housing experiment, officials said.
