NEW DELHI: Policymakers and experts from 31 Commonwealth countries are participating in a weeklong pan-Commonwealth institutional building programme here on small business competitiveness development, organised jointly by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC). The programme ends this coming Friday. Vital issues related to small and medium enterprises (SME) are being discussed with focus on "networking the Commonwealth". The topics include "small businesses and development institutions", "the services sector", "technology and innovation", "clustering, collaboration and networking", "agro and rural industries" and "financing". The programme is delivered through a combination of best practices from around the Commonwealth, case studies and field visits. According to NSIC Chairman and Managing Director H. P. Kumar, small and medium enterprises in India and other Commonwealth countries face common development problems in the globalised economic environment in terms of markets and technology.
