MUMBAI: After running a circuitous course, Mumbai Police on Thursday got the custody of extradited underworld kingpin Abu Salem till December 2, from the Sessions Court here to interrogate him in the case of murder of realtor Pradeep Jain. Abu Salem, extradited from Portugal because of his involvement in the Mumbai serial bomb blasts of 1993, was remanded in judicial custody till December 7 on Wednesday after the prosecuting agency CBI told the TADA court that it did not need him for the time being. But the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Mumbai Police had got a production warrant from the Sessions Court, the trial court of the Jain murder case and urged the TADA court to release Salem from its custody so that he could be produced before the trial court. TADA Judge P.D. Kode allowed the city police to take Salem but on condition that he would take steps for his judicial custody after the expiry of its own custody granted by the trial court. Mumbai Police Prosecutor Rohini Salian assured the TADA court he would be produced before it whenever required in the 1993 blasts case.
