dated November 25, 1955: First Test drawn

The first cricket Test between India and New Zealand ended in a draw in Hyderabad on November 24. Following on, the tourists made 212 for two wickets in their second innings at close of play. A brilliant 137 not out by B. Sutcliffe and an unbroken 106-run partnership between Sutcliffe and J.R. Reid (45 not out) featured the day's game. The scores: India - First Innings: 498 for four declared (P.R. Umrigar 223, V.L. Manjrekar 118, A.G. Kripal Singh 100 not out); New Zealand - First Innings: 326 and Second Innings 212 for two.
