Revenue will go to village forest societies Revenue will go to village forest societies

Dharmapuri: The district administration has identified six Forest villages in the district for the construction of percolation ponds to breed fresh water fish, said Collector, M. Chandrasekaran, here on Wednesday.

The villages were: Pasipalikombai, Karukalachatiram, Agraharam, Thoppur, Thammapuram and Siva Subramanya Nagar.

Water harvesting structures like percolation ponds and check dams constructed in Dharmapuri through the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project, National Afforestation Programme and Water Management Scheme have helped in conservation of water to a great extent.

Storage

Storage level in majority of the ponds and check dams has also significantly improved following heavy rainfall in the district in the current year, the Collector said. A study conducted by the district administration revealed that a total of 50 percolation ponds were suitable for breeding and sale of fresh water fish.

Production

The production is expected to be between 60 tonnes to 70 tonnes.

The revenue from fish breeding would be handed over to village forest societies, Mr. Chandrasekaran added.
