`Congress worker's murder will be cracked soon'

Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: The Kodagu police have intensified the process of tracking down the assassins of Kunjanda Ravi, a Congress worker and a ticket aspirant for the zilla panchayat elections, who was shot dead in Virajpet on Monday last.

The Superintendent of Police, Devajyoti Ray, told The Hindu on Thursday that a number of people, with whom Ravi had had some sort of acquaintance, were being interrogated. Some were asked to make statements and some picked up for further questioning. A few of them were let off after interrogation.

The police, however, were close to cracking the case, which would be known in a day or two, Mr. Ray said.

Meanwhile, rumours were agog in the city that a sharpshooter from Balele area had been picked up by the police in connection with the case. Some others said the shooter hailed from Sampaje area.

The police, according to some sources, are also investigating the role of certain businessmen, local politicians and others, who could have had a hand in the killing of Kunjanda Ravi.
