Staff Correspondent

Star News and NDTV accused of airing `false and biased' news

THAT'S THE PRICE YOU PAY: Kannada activists setting an effigy of a TV channel on fire in Belgaum on Thursday.

Belgaum: Kannada activists, under the banner of Belgaum District Kannada Organisations Action Committee, burnt an effigy of Star News and condemned NDTV for allegedly airing "false" and "biased" versions on the situation in Belgaum on Thursday.

They also submitted a memorandum to the Government through the Deputy Commissioner demanding appropriate action against the two channels and their staff members for trying to foment violence and damage peace and linguistic harmony in the city by airing misleading versions on the situation in Belgaum.

On Wednesday, according to the activists, the two channels had allegedly aired biased versions on the law and order situation in Belgaum city and one-sided stories on the boundary dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, particularly on the question of Belgaum city.

On learning about it, a few activists stormed into a hotel where the Star News team was staying and took them to task for playing with linguistic harmony and peace in the city. Soon the police arrived on the spot and subsequently, the team was allegedly forced to quit the hotel.

On Thursday, the activists gathered at Rani Channamma Circle, shouted slogans against the TV channels and burnt the effigy of Star TV.
