NEW DELHI: The Argentine captain Jorge Lombi is one of 11 foreign players to have confirmed participation in the second edition of the Premier Hockey League to be played in Chandigarh from January 5. Salman Akbar, Shakeel Abbasi, Rehan Butt, Mohammed Saqlain, Adnan Zakir, Imran Warsi and Dilawar Hussain will strengthen the league from across the border in Pakistan. Unlike the first edition in Hyderabad that featured 13 players from Pakistan, the second edition attempts to offer European flair as well. It was announced that negotiations were still on to fill three more slots with foreign players. Jordi Quintana and Pau Quemada of Spain, and Balder Bomans of the Netherlands will be the other foreign players in the fray, strengthening the five teams in the Tier `I' competition. It was stated in a press conference here on Wednesday that the work on fixing the flood-lights at the Chandigarh Stadium was scheduled to begin on December 8. The matches are scheduled to be played from 7 p.m. to facilitate better coverage by the print media.
