IIM-K plans MDP on e-publishing

Three-day programme starts on December 12

KOZHIKODE: Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) is organising a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) in `e-publishing' here from December 12 to 14.

V. Rajaraman, IT expert, will inaugurate the programme on December 12. The programme CD will be released by Krishna Kumar, director, IIM-K. The programme is targeted at publishers, information intermediaries, librarians, information science and IT professionals, M.G. Sreekumar and R. Radhakrishna Pillai, coordinators of the programme, said in a release here.

The programme, which is meticulously designed to showcase the big picture of the emerging and changing landscape of scholarly and trade publishing, will also impart the knowledge and skills that the information industry and information professionals need to position themselves at the cutting edge of technology and the profession. Experts will be handling the sessions.

The participant of the programme will be able to get an exposure to open publishing and open access philosophies and open source institutional repository software towards building interoperable scholarly publications archives.

The programme will also showcase two internationally reputed, open source, institutional repository software namely, `E-prints' developed by Southampton University in collaboration with the Open Archives Initiative, U.S. and `D-space' developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
