Andhra Pradesh seeks grant for flood relief

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday requested the Centre to release Rs. 350 crore for taking up rural road construction and to carry out repairs since recent floods had affected the conditions of roads in the State.

In his meeting with Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, the A.P. Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy said that due to extensive damage caused by floods to the roads, especially in rural areas, the State Government had drawn a new priority list, a State Government release said.

Urging the Centre to take cognisance of the redrawn list while releasing funds, the State Minister also requested the Centre to allocate special funds for the development of remote areas in the State. Mr. Reddy also briefed the Union Minister about the Kalchakra conference to be held in Amravati, Guntur district from January 5 to 16 next year and extended invitation to Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.
