Fare hike a farce, say bus owners

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The recent strike called by a section of private bus owners and the subsequent fare hike were a farce, said M. Khalid Mundapilly, president of the Kerala State Private Bus Owners' Federation, here on Thursday.

"The strike was untimely and hastily called. One of the main demands of bus operators was a reduction in student concession, from 75 per cent to 50 per cent. The Government has not done so. With the fare hike taking effect, the percentage of concession has increased even further. This is a failure on the part of the unions that had gone on strike. The net result is that students can travel in buses by paying just 50 paise."
