Health and Family Welfare Minister Thalavai Sundaram gave away mementoes to 43 organisers and three donors who have donated more than 100 times. The event at the Hotel Comfort Inn, Egmore, was also attended by the president of the Slum Clearance Board, N. Balaganga. The head of the Government Stanley Hospital Blood Bank, N. Rajkumar, lauded the Minister for having allotted Rs. 30 lakhs from his constituency development fund for setting up a blood bank at the Kanyakumari Medical College. K.M. Radhakrishnan of Dr. MGR Medical University said such events should encourage more people to donate and that the government, donors, banks and doctors need to work together to ensure the viability of blood banks. The Health Minister released a booklet on the city's government blood banks.
