BANGALORE: The Congress has said that it will go it alone in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections and no party has sought an alliance with it. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President M. Mallikarjun Kharge said here on Thursday that the party has not received any proposal from the Janata Dal (S) group led by Siddaramaiah for an alliance in the coming elections. Addressing presspersons, Mr. Kharge reiterated that the Congress would fight the elections on its own. Asked about seat adjustments with the group led by Mr. Siddaramaiah, he said discussions have not been held on an alliance. However, the party is ready for alliances with like-minded small parties in some taluks to ensure the defeat of communal forces, he said. Mr. Kharge said the Congress's coalition partner, the Janata Dal (S), has no right to dictate terms to it on alliance or seat adjustments with other parties. The JD(S) could speak only if there are shortcomings in the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme, he said.
