THRISSUR: An award instituted in memory of the freedom fighter Muhammed Abdul Rahiman Sahib was presented to the noted social and literary critic Sukumar Azhikode by Minister for Electricity Aryadan Muhammed in Kodungallur on Wednesday. Dr. Azhikode said faith in one religion was, often, transforming into hatred against others, and this pathetic predicament had become one of the major challenges facing Indian nationalism. It would be difficult to carry secularism as a guiding ideal of life for those who repose complete trust in religion. Recalling that the late Abdul Rahiman Sahib never compromised with wrong approaches and showed remarkable levels of tolerance, Dr. Azhikode said the Congress unit in the State could be salvaged only by party men able to imbibe the qualities of such leaders. M.M. Hassan, MLA; the writer N.P. Hafis Muhammed; the film director Kamal; Muhammed Abdul Rahiman Sahib Foundation general secretary Abdul Rahiman Kadappur; and the Kodungallur municipal chairman V.K. Gopi spoke.
