Ashik finishes ahead of Manjeet

NEW DELHI: Asian champion Manjeet Kaur was beaten to the second place by Ashik Beevi of the CRPF in the women's 400 metres on the second day of the 54th All-India Police athletics championship at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.

Manjeet, champion at Incheon, Korea, clocked 55.95 seconds as against

Beevi's 54.79 for the silver. "I am into off-season training and was in no shape to run a race. I came here because of my commitment to my department. I am not unhappy with my performance," said Manjeet.

Joseph Abraham clocked 50.91 sec for a meet record in the 400-metre hurdles, while V. V. Geesh Kumar and Deepa Chaudhary also posted meet record in the men and women's pole vault events respectively.

Anisha Vijayan was another athlete who had a meet record, leaping to a distance of 6.13 metres.
