ANANTAPUR : Baroda struggled to a score of 58 for four against Andhra in their Elite group B Ranji Trophy match at the Rural Development Trust cricket ground here on Wednesday. Blighted by bad light and overnight rain, play was possible for only a little over an hour and a half on the second day. That the bowlers wielded the whip, became visible shortly past tea, when the day's action commenced. Opener Connor Williams flirted with disaster by taking a jab at a Shabuddin delivery leaving him, the resultant thick edge sailing into the safe hands of M.S.K. Prasad. The strapping speedster then had Baroda captain Jacob Martin's off-stump doing a cartwheel in his very next over. From the other end, Kalyana Krishna bowled with fire, rapping Powar thrice on the pads in one over. Back from an injury, the right arm quick had Powar ducking once but didn't entirely succeed in rattling the batsmen with his bouncers. Southpaws Solanki and Powar then brought the Baroda innings a measure of stability, the latter straight-driving Krishna for a four and the former hooking a rising ball to long leg. Presently, the home side pumped up the pace, but to no avail, as the strip tended to slow down a bit. Drinks were wheeled in, in a quaint looking push cart, adding its own allure to the sylvan surroundings. In conditions quite English, with a cold breeze blowing right through the evening, the umpires brought out the light meter a little short of an hour from the scheduled close of play. As darkness descended a short while later, they asked for the covers to be brought on, signalling an end to the day's proceedings. The score: Baroda 1st innings: Connor Williams c Prasad b Shabuddin 6, Satyajit Parab c Prasad b Shabuddin 10, Irshad Sindhi lbw b Kalyana Krishna 1, Jacob Martin b Shabuddin 3, Kiran Powar not out 21, Rakesh Solanki not out 15. Extras (lb-2) 2. Total (for four wickets in 26 overs, 140 minutes) 58. Fall of wickets: 1-11, 2-12, 3-18, 4-23. Andhra bowling: K.S. Shabuddin 11-3-22-3, D. Kalyana Krishna 10-2-23-1, M. Suresh 1-1-0-0, A.G. Praveen 3-0-7-0, Md. Faiq 1-0-4-0.
