CHENNAI: Communal harmony and secularism - the basic principles of Sikhism was emphasised at the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Russian Cultural Centre on Thursday. Organised by Developers India, `Prakash Utsav', the 537th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak was commemorated as inter-faith get-together and brought together eminent persons of different religions. Industrial entrepreneur and fine arts patron, Nalli Kuppusami Chetti, was honoured with `Vibrant Indian' Award in recognition of his corporate achievements, spiritual and social activism. Mr. Chetti received the award, comprising a citation and memento, from Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali. Presenting the award, Prince of Arcot, lauded Mr. Chetti for his activities promoting religious harmony. He described Developers India as an organisation that promoted communal harmony and national integration, and hailed the Guru as a man of secularism. S.J. Lawrence Fernandas of Sathya Nilayam highlighted the qualities of creativity, compassion and courage of Guru Nanak. He described Guru Nanak as a seer, seeker and sage who broke down caste disparity through his principles. Giani Swaran Singh, Sikh Scholar, underlined the three challenges faced by Guru Nanak -- terrorism, social injustice and cheating people in the name of god. Stanislav I. Simkov, vice consul, consulate of Russia and Director of Russian Cultural Centre and Harbhajan Singh, founder-secretary of Developers India also participated.
