Expo to focus on employability factor

Swahilya

It will facilitate industry-institution interaction for the benefit of students

Chennai: Loyola Career Expo 2005 will conduct an industry-institution interaction on Friday to make students more employable and help them to fix up internships with industries in their fields.

The theme of the interaction is `Relevance of arts and science colleges to Indian Industry.'

Elective papers

It will focus on revising subjects and introducing elective papers to suit the needs of industry and enabling students to become employable, encouraging and strengthening the internship programme for final year students on relevant areas with industry, making in-house expertise of industry available to empower academia for advanced research and exploring possibilities of creating facilities in select institutions for research and training, says T. Eugine, Director, Student Service Centre of the College.

More demand

He said that by 2008, India would need more than two million professionals against the present one million working in the service sector.

But less than 40 per cent of them seem to be employable and hence the quality of output from the universities had to improve drastically.
