HYDERABAD : Execution of the proposed 159-km Outer Ring Road may take one more year if the Government is keen on getting foreign funding for its ambitious programme of de-congesting the city as well as ensuring its horizontal expansion. The ORR is an important component in the Rs.8,000-crore to Rs.9,000-crore mega funding the Government is looking for. The other components are infrastructure and knowledge corridor and cluster/township development.
Funding of project
The Dubai Government has already entered into an MoU with the State Government to fund the entire project. A comprehensive proposal from it is expected in the third week of December. Meanwhile China, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia too evinced interest in funding the project. "We are looking at an investment of Rs.8, 000 crores to Rs.9,000 crores of foreign investment which includes the Rs.3,000-crore ORR, infrastructure and knowledge corridor and cluster/township development. Piece-meal approach will not take us anywhere," says Infrastructure Corporation of AP Managing Director L.V. Subramanyam.
Land acquisition
The HUDA has originally thought of executing the first phase, 22-km stretch of ORR from Gachibowli to Shamshabad and speeded up land acquisition, environment clearance and even kept the Detailed Project Report ready. The alignment for the137-km second phase will also be finalised by month-end. But work will not commence till the financial package for the entire project is secured.
