KOCHI: The Government College of Sanskrit, Thripunithura is once again gearing up to become the venue for a meaningful discourse on Koodiyattom, the classical Sanskrit theatre of Kerala. The International Centre for Koodiyattom, based at Thripunithura is planning to observe November 26 as a Renaissance Day for the classical art form. The occasion will be marked with seminars, a book release and a performance of Koodiyattom. Two seminars will be organised as part of the programmes. The first one, on `Tradition and Modernity in Koodiyattom,' will be moderated by theatre director Chandradasan. Margi Madhu will present a paper about `Ritual and Modernity,' K.V. Vasudevan on `The Importance of Nirvahana,' and Ramesh Varma on `The Strengths and Weaknesses of Koodiyattom.' After the morning session, Margi Madhu will present a Chakyarkoothu performance. The second seminar on `Humour on the Stage,' will be moderated by C.R. Omanakuttan. Kalamandalam Kesavan will present a paper about Kathakali, Kalamandalam Prabhakaran on `Thullal' and N.K. Geetha on `Koodiyattom.' The book, `New Facets of Kootiyattam,' edited by K.G. Paulose will be released at a public meeting to be held in the evening by V.R. Prabodhachandran Nair, chairman of Kerala Kalamandalam. The book, dedicated to the memory of late Margi Subramanian Potti will be received by Margi Sathi, his widow and the well-known Koodiyattom artiste. Dr. Paulose will make the Subramanian Potti memorial address. G.Venu, director, Natana Kairali, Irinjalakuda will deliver the keynote address on `Koodiyattom in 21st Century.' The meeting will be followed by a performance of the Koodiyattom `Mayasirassu,' presented by Ammannur Chachu Chakyar Smaraka Gurukulam, Irinjalakuda. The fifth chapter of Bhasan's `Abhisheka Natakam,' `Mayasirassu' was performed only rarely.
