Gang strikes in Chandapura

BANGALORE: Three armed men attacked a businessman and looted 1.50 kg of silver articles and cash from his house in Hebbugodi police station limits in the early hours of Thursday.

The police said that around 1 a.m., robbers struck at the house of Shashi in Chandapura, off Hosur Road. They broke into the house, and attacked Shashi with stones when he resisted them.

They took away silver articles and the cash that were in a cupboard. On a complaint by Shashi, who owns an automobile showroom, the Hebbugodi police have registered a case.

Man dies in scuffle

An elderly man died in a scuffle between members of two families over a marriage on Wednesday. The police gave the name of the dead as Hanumanthappa (55), a resident of Annaiappa Colony in Thippasandra in Jeevanbimanagar police station limits.

According to the police, Hanumanthappa' son Nagesh recently married Prema, daughter of Krishnappa, also a resident of Thippasandra.

Krishnappa's family was unhappy over the marriage as Nagesh belonged to a different caste. While the couple were away, Krishnappa and his sons went to Hanumanthappa's house on Wednesday night and allegedly attacked him and his relatives. During the scuffle, Hanumanthappa collapsed and died, the police said.

The Jeevanbimanagar police have registered a case of murder on a complaint by Hanumanthappa's brother-in-law, Seshappa.

Killed in accident

A man aged around 40 was killed when a multi-utility vehicle hit him while he was crossing Hosur Road, off Garvebavipalya, around 3.45 a.m. on Thursday. The Madivala traffic police have seized the vehicle and are on the lookout for the driver.

Job racket

The Indiranagar police have arrested Satish P. Muliyil who had allegedly cheated 300 people of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs abroad.

The police said that on a tip off, a special team went to Hyderabad and arrested Satish there. He was at large since March 2004, the police said. Satish was running a recruitment agency, "Cambridge Campus," from his office in Indiranagar. On complaints by the victims, the police had arrested Satish's secretary Anita in March 2004 and were on the lookout for him.

The police said there were cases against Satish in Mangalore and Kasargod in Kerala. While he had cheated the public of Rs. 9.75 lakhs in Kerala, he had duped the public of Rs. 5 lakhs in Mangalore, the police said.

Ganja seized

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Wednesday arrested Manjunath (26) of Jaraganahalli and seized from him five kg of ganja and a motorcycle. The police said that on a tip off they arrested Manjunath from near the Shani Mahatma temple, off Okalipuram Bridge.
