IMPHAL: One boy was killed and two, including a girl, were seriously wounded when landmines planted by insurgents exploded at Jiribam bordering Assam, a military spokesman said here. On Sunday Vannah Thang (12) of the Parbung sub-division in Churachandpur district, who stepped on a landmine, succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. The next day Joilulmun (15) and Bebek (13) were seriously wounded in another landmine blast. One of them is said to be in a critical condition. The spokesman said that as the Army had launched Operation Tornado to clear the Belcra bowl at Jiribam of insurgents, the retreating militants planted landmines in villages. According to another report, two masked persons in army fatigues have been terrifying members of a particular community and asking them to leave Jiribam. The displaced persons are staying in the house of an elected representative.
