KOLKATA: Twenty-six persons were injured when the Howrah-bound Sambalpur-Howrah Express rammed into the rear of the stationary Kharapur-Howrah local at Panskura in West Bengal's East Midnapore district, 72 km from Howrah, on Friday morning. Two bogies of the local train were derailed in the impact of the collision. The driver and assistant driver of the express train have been suspended on charge of negligence on the basis of prima facie evidence following preliminary investigations. A departmental inquiry is being conducted by the Commission of Railway Safety, an official of the South Eastern Railway, told The Hindu . The express train had, apparently, overshot the signal, resulting in the accident. Damage to the train, however, was slight as it was moving at a slow speed. Trains services in the section remained suspended till late afternoon as both the up and down railway tracks were blocked as a result of the derailment of the local train.
