PONDICHERRY: A case of dengue has been reported from Tindivanam on Friday. A 29-year-old person admitted to the General Hospital here tested positive, Dr. Govindarajan, Medical Superintendent, told The Hindu . Further test need to be conducted, he added. There were no fresh cases reported in Pondicherry from any of the hospitals. One of the patients who was admitted to the General Hospital a few days ago for dengue was discharged today, he said. The Health Department has sanitised certain areas in Lawspet, Muthialpet from where the dengue had been reported during the past few days. The department's field staff sprayed disinfectants and fogged the areas. As a preventive measure fogging was also done in adjacent areas. Doctors said some of the symptoms were high fever, severe headache, , nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Rashes usually appear three to four days after fever. The illness could last up to 10 days, but complete recovery would take about a month. The only preventive measure is to keep away from mosquitoes, especially during rainy season. One should eliminate mosquito-breeding sites around the home and also discard items that could collect rain or runoff , especially old tyres.
