BIJAPUR: The Janata Dal (S) group of the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will meet in Bangalore to decide on electoral understanding with the Congress for the panchayat elections. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, C.M. Ibrahim, who has been proclaimed President of the party, said before a formal discussion with the Congress the issue will be discussed within the party. There is an overwhelming opinion among party workers for a poll tie-up with the Congress. Mr. Ibrahim welcomed the statement by President of the KPCC M. Mallikarjun Kharge that his party was ready to have alliance with like-minded political forces, including the Janata Dal (S) group of Mr. Siddaramaiah. The party was ready to have alliance with like-minded groups, except the Janata Dal (S) of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said. To a query, Mr. Ibrahim said the party had asked the Election Commission to allot it the "balance" as its symbol. He denied the charge of Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash that AHINDA was being used to glorify an individual (Mr. Siddaramaiah) and to belittle Mr. Deve Gowda. Though he was present Mr. Siddaramaiah let Mr. Ibrahim do the talking. However, towards the end of the press conference he made it categorically clear that if the party decided to have an understanding with the Congress it would be limited to seat adjustments. A decision to this effect would be taken on Saturday. Later, they addressed an AHINDA rally at Sindagi town.
