Jesudas award announced

P. Susheela gets award for contributions to South Indian cinema and music

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Singer Sonu Nigam has been selected for the Swaralaya-Kairali-Jesudas award for 2005. P. Susheela gets the award for contributions to South Indian cinema and music. Sonu and Susheela have been selected by a jury with K. Jayakumar as chairman and Perumbavoor Ravindranath, M.G. Pillai, Sreelekha and G. Rajmohan as members.

Mr. Jayakumar told presspersons here on Friday that Sonu and Susheela had been selected on the basis of 2,000 nominations from music buffs. The award for Sonu comprises Rs.1 lakh, a citation and a memento designed by Kanayi Kunhiraman. The award for Susheela carries a purse of Rs.75,000, a memento and a citation. K.J. Jesudas will present the awards at a Gandharva Sandhya to be held here on January 15. The award for overall contributions has been increased from Rs.50,000 to Rs.75,000.
