Gas-based power plant in Adilabad mooted

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Energy and Coal Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday said setting up of a gas-based power plant in Adilabad district is more feasible under the present circumstances.

He said a thermal power project required forest department clearance which consumed a lot of time. Talking to reporters here, the Minister said a pipeline to supply gas to different States from the Godavari basin would be ready by 2008. These pipelines would supply gas to many gas-based power projects in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

There was scope for supply of gas to districts like Nizamabad and Adilabad through these pipelines reaching out to neighbouring states, he said.

Hence, the scope for establishment of a gas-based power project in these districts looked more feasible, he explained.

Mr. Ali later proceeded to Yavatmal district head quarter town in Maharashtra to attend a seminar in connection with well-known media personality late Jawarharlal Darda.
