BSNL offer

CHENNAI: BSNL Chennai has announced that it will provide free unlimited download to those registering for `Home plan 250.' The scheme is "as applicable to other plans" and those already registered under Home plan 250 will also benefit under the scheme valid till Wednesday.

Firemen recruitment

Candidates for recruitment of firemen for 2003-04, scheduled to have appeared on November 23 for certificate verification, physical measurement test/endurance test, may appear for the same on December 8. The tests have been postponed due to incessant rain in the city.

Candidates who could have appeared for recruitment from November 24-27 should appear on December 9. The physical efficiency test for qualified candidates will be held on December 10. All candidates who applied for the recruitment must appear on the rescheduled dates at 6 a.m. for the test, says a release from the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Chairman, Chennai City Centre.

Training programme

ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI Tamil Nadu Centre and Federation of AOTS Alumni Association of India will hold a two-day training programme on `quality control - a Japanese approach' on December 8-9 in T. Nagar. For details contact: 23740318/23743575/30903332.

Christmas fair

The Christmas Fair Association will hold its annual fair on December 3 at Madras Seva Sadan on Harrington Road, Chetpet. The programme will be held from 10 a.m. in aid of charities such as Mercy Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, Little Flower Convent, Shanti Bhavan and Salvation Army. The display will include food and games, embroidery, linen, Christmas decorations and toys.

Book release

As part of memorial ceremony for author Sundara Ramaswami a book on the author will be released by novelist Jayakanthan on Sunday. Film director Balu Mahendra will receive the first copy at Devaneya Paavaanar district library on Anna Salai.

Honoured

M. Murali, managing director of Sri Krishna Sweets, was honoured with the Prukruthi award for his efforts in greening Chennai. The award was presented by Governor S.S. Barnala at a function in Vani Mahal, T. Nagar early this week.

Short films

Six short films will be screened on Saturday at the South Indian Film Chamber theatre on Anna Salai in the presence of P.C. Sree Ram. The programme will begin at 6.30 p.m.

Bank's gesture

The Ambattur branch of State Bank of India donated 60 schoolbags, lunch boxes, pens, three chairs and 27 steel racks worth Rs. 25,000 to Anna Anathai Illam at Pudur as part of their community services banking programme. T. Pitchandi, Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, donated two steel cupboards costing Rs. 9,000.
