KOCHI: The Cochin Rubber Merchants Association has threatened to withdraw from the export market. A statement issued by the association said that unless the Government came forward to refund the tax under the Value-Added Tax (VAT) rules, the rubber exporters would be forced to withdraw from export. After the introduction of VAT in Kerala, exporters were required to pay it at the rate of 4 per cent on purchase of rubber. The amount was to be refunded. More than 37,000 tonnes of rubber were exported during eight months after the introduction of VAT, but the Government had not made the refund.
