Nellore
Staff Reporter
Nellore: The police in Nellore town have embarked upon an ambitious exercise of computerising all details regarding nature of employment and duration of stay of occupants in lodges and apartments. A team of officials had already begun the job of collecting details from owners and leaseholders, besides enquiring in detail, about the occupants and those who had introduced them to the owners. A separate exercise to know about owners/leaseholders had also commenced. The exercise assumes significance in view of frequent thefts/burglaries occurring in the town, particularly in the interior areas. The construction of houses and apartments far away from the town had resulted in them getting isolated, which suited the offenders.
Amenities lacking
Interestingly, most of these colonies do not have proper roads, lighting and basic infrastructure. Yet the houses/apartments command a premium, due to increasing migration from rural areas. The exercise commenced by the police was aimed at having a first hand knowledge about the occupancy of these places.
