CPI(M) disagrees with DMK on Kushboo row

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), N. Varadarajan, on Saturday said his party did not agree with the assessment of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi that involvement of "highly placed persons" in the Kushboo-Suhasini issue would result in a situation that would help the DMK "to nurture again a non-Brahmin movement."

In a statement here, Mr. Varadarajan said the CPI(M) had made it clear that the views expressed by film stars Kushboo and Suhasini on pre-marital sex were not acceptable to the party. He said the CPI(M) had also made it clear that though expressing opinion or launching democratic agitations to counter these views were accepted democratic practices, throwing footwear and waving broomstick and indulging in violent activities were unpleasant.
