HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) in its quest to become more interactive with people of the twin cities has started making available online services through `APOnline', the digital gateway of the Government from Saturday. With this, people can pay their property taxes, get trade licence and requisition birth and death certificates through the 300-odd service delivery points of APOnline spread all over the city in addition to seven of its citizen service centres and 50 eSeva centres. Credit or debit cards, cash, cheque or demand drafts are accepted at these delivery points at no extra cost for the consumer. The MCH pays Rs. 5 to eSeva centres towards collecting the taxes and the same amount will be paid to the APOnline service delivery person. Minister for Municipal Administration K. Ranga Rao, inaugurating the service on Saturday, expressed the hope that these services would bring the civic body closer to people and save them the trouble of running around officials. He pointed out that it would cause no burden to people and invited unemployed youth to start more such online delivery points. Mayor T. Krishna Reddy, Deputy Mayor Subash Chanderji, Standing Committee Chairman D. Mohan, MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju and senior officials - Balakrishna and Sakala Reddy - were present.
Security aspect
MCH Additional Commissioner for Finance and IT Ramesh Babu said that as the number of tax inspectors and bill collectors was not adequate, the start of these online delivery points would go a long way in fulfilling the needs of people and the Corporation. Citizens did not have to worry about the security of the transactions or the money paid as all delivery points were connected through Internet to the APOnline servers for transactions. A limit of Rs. 50,000 was fixed for each delivery point for receiving cash and for fresh transactions; the deposit money has to be renewed.
