``Allot enough funds''

TIRUCHI : Tiruchi MP L. Ganesan (Marumalarchi Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam) urged the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to allocate adequate funds for relief, rescue and rehabilitation works in the flood-affected areas in the State.

In a communication to Dr. Singh, Mr. Ganesan said that the torrential and continuous rain for the last five days had caused an `unimaginable damage and immeasurable devastation' in Tamil Nadu.

River were in spate flooding several lakh acres of fields with standing crops.

Bunds of rivers breached at several points and water seeped into and marooned many villages.

Mr. Ganesan said that roads and rail tracks had been washed away in many places. Bridges and culverts were heavily damaged. The flood had taken a toll of more than 150 lives.

He urged Dr. Singh to activate every machinery at his disposal and rush them into relief rescue and rehabilitation works.
