Shimla: Higher reaches of Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts in Himachal Pradesh continued receiving intermittent snowfall for the second day on Sunday, bringing a sharp drop in the day and night temperatures, official sources said. Lady of Keylong, Goshal, Tilbu, Neelkanth, Spatrishi peaks and Baralacha Pass and Suraj Tal and Chander Tal lakes in Lahaul and Spiti were receiving another spell of snowfall. Snowfall was also reported from Kibber village, the highest village in the world at an attitude of 16,000 feet, in the district. The 13,050-feet high Rohtang Pass, which is normally closed for vehicular traffic from November 1, had already received four to five inches of snowfall since yesterday night, official sources said. The Pass, which is also called the gateway to the district, was still open for vehicular traffic and sources said more snowfall could affect traffic movement on it. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Keylong, district headquarters of the district, were below zero degrees. It recorded a maximum temperature of -2.4 and a minimum temperature of -8.0 degrees celsius yesterday. Official sources said Kaza in the district recorded day temprature of -5.3 and night temperature of -10 degrees. Day and night temperatures in Kinnaur district has also plummeted to below zero degrees with sky being overcast throughout the day, but there was no report of snowfall from any part of the district in the last 24 hrs. A report from Chamba district said the 14,500-foot high Saach Pass and Mahalwar Dahar in Chamba district also experienced light snowfall today. The Pangi Valley of the district also received another spell of snowfall. The whole state is in the grip of a coldwave and temperatures were one or two degrees below normal throughout the state, with Sundernagar in Mandi district recording a maximum of 20.6 and minimum of 3.6 degrees. -- UNI
