Probe into attack on Lalu begins

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: The one-man N.B. Patel judicial inquiry commission to probe the alleged attack on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad during his visit to the Samlaya railway station and the Sayaji civil hospital in Vadodara, began work with a site visit on Sunday.

The commission visited the Sabarmati Express accident site on the outskirts of the Samlaya station, 25 km from Godhra, and later the Vadodara S.S.G hospital where the injured passengers were treated.

Mr. Prasad was heckled when he visited the accident site a few hours after the tragedy on April 21 and later his car was allegedly stoned at the Vadodara hospital. Mr. Prasad had alleged that the attackers belonged to the Sangh Parivar. Following the allegations, the State Government ordered the judicial inquiry..

An official spokesman of the commission said the deposition of the witnesses would soon be taken up. The site visit was to acquaint the commission with the situation prevailing at the time of the alleged attack.
