Letters to the Editor
The loss of life and property wrought by heavy rain in Tamil Nadu is unfortunate. Ironically, in a State reeling under water shortage year after year, rain has brought no joy. Even while the Government works for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected by natural disasters, it would do well to evolve ways to cope with such disasters in future.
A. Digu,
The Southern Railways' efforts to restore the disrupted services on a war footing are praiseworthy. The two gangmen who helped avert a major train accident between Kattur and Pullampadi in Tiruchi richly deserve their reward.
O.G. Gopinathan,
Singara Chennai looks like Venice. Most of the roads already look like canals. The many advantages of this are: we can store more water for dry years; the State can save all the money that is continuously spent on repairing and relaying the roads. All petrol and diesel used up by the fast-growing number of vehicles in Chennai would be saved. And there will be no roads left for protest marches.
G. Satpoorani,
