`Guntur Gandhi' remembered

GUNTUR: Rich tributes were paid to Vattikuti Venkata Subbaiah, an activist of sarvodaya movement and a Gandhian, also known as `Guntur Gandhi' on his death anniversary here on Monday. Speaking at a programme organised by Avagaahana here on Monday, former legislator Kasaraneni Sadasiva Rao said that Subbaiah was known for his spirit of sacrifice, devotion to duty, concern for others and sincerity.

Earlier, freedom fighter Daruvuri Veeraiah garlanded the statue of Subbaiah at Lakshmipuram in Guntur and paid tributes. The day should be declared as `hygiene day' in memory of the great person, said secretary of Avagaahana, Konda Sivarami Reddy.
