Suspended TRS member faults party leadership

Special Correspondent

Claims to have received threatening phone calls

Alleges that party has not followed democratic norms Denies making allegations against Harish Rao Will continue links with Telangana movement

HYDERABAD: Suspended TRS leader Ch. Umesh Rao, who is the nephew of Union Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao, has faulted the party leadership for acting `unilaterally' and not following democratic norms.

Mr. Rao said he was not aware of the reasons for his suspension. "Democratic norms require that a show-cause notice is served before taking any action," he told The Hindu .

He said in his media interview earlier he had neither criticised the leadership, nor the party policies or Telangana movement, but only stated that allegations were being levelled against former Minister T. Harish Rao (his cousin) and there was need for the latter to clarify on the matter.

"I still don't know why they have reacted so strongly. So far, they have not informed me of the reasons for my suspension. I will not desert the Telangana movement even if they remove me from TRS," he added.

Mr. Rao, however, maintained that he would abide by the party's decision. He asserted that there was no dissidence in the party and that he would continue to work for the cause of Telangana. He claimed that he had received threatening telephone calls.

Mr. Rao received support from rebel MLA Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy who maintained that there was no need for the party to suspend Mr. Umesh Rao. Meanwhile, six rebel MLAs, including Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy, called on Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao, who is recuperating at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
