HYDERABAD: Satyam Computer Services Ltd has announced plans for setting up a state-of-the-art corporate leadership university, Satyam School of Leadership (SSL) to produce leaders who could accelerate its growth.

The company has roped in Ed Cohen, founder of Booz Allen Centre for performance excellence, as senior vice-president for developing SSL into a niche institution. To be set up in the city by the middle of next year, the SSL will initially cover 5 per cent of Satyam's full life cycle associates — about 1,400 to 1,500. The company aims at covering 10 per cent of its associates in coming years.

Stating this at a press conference here on Monday, Satyam founder-chairman B. Ramalinga Raju said that the initiative is part of the company's task of making leaders grow faster than the competition. The SSL will cover associates of subsidiary companies as well.

    Right talent

The company is competing head-on with global majors, and it needs leaders who can see far beyond what the industry is seeing at present.

The company is identifying right talent and gender and issues centred around cultural and gender diversity for addressing leadership issues. The company adopted a systematic approach in identifying the gaps between the aspirations and actual achievement and is proceeding in a strategic way to create and nurture leaders, Mr. Raju said.

Towards this end, every opportunity to take advantage of Internet communication is being explored.

A.S. Murthy, director and senior vice-president, human resources, and Mr. Cohen spoke.
