SC status for Dalit Christians sought

HYDERABAD: The All-India Christian Council (AICC) and the All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations (AICSSO) have demanded urgent steps to give Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians.

At a meeting organised here on Sunday, the council and the confederation sought a Bill to be introduced in Parliament in this session to allow the status to Dalit Christians to enable them get the benefit of reservation.

Joseph D'Souza, AICC national president, Udith Raj, AICSSO chairman, and G. Samuel, State AICC president, on Monday criticised the UPA Government for resorting to delaying tactics on the issue.
