HYDERABAD : The Government is actively considering the proposal for constructing an expressway to reach the international airport from the city in the shortest time possible. Though the outer ring road will provide access to the Shamshabad airport, an expressway will enable commuters to reach the airport fast. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary S.P. Singh has said the Government is keen on the expressway as it provides faster connectivity to the airport. It is the trend all over the world to have faster access routes to the airport. "Things are moving fast. In a month details like alignments, technical and financial options will be worked out." The Government has already given a notification inviting expression of interest from the consultants to evaluate the proposal of expressway from Mehdipatnam to the international airport by December 15. By the time the international airport is ready, the expressway will also be done, says Mr. Singh.
Bid to be invited
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the GMR group, which has proposed the 11-km express elevated corridor, submitted a study report to the Government that it is willing to execute it. The consultant will evaluate the proposal and if everything is in order, bids will be invited from prospective bidders through the `Swiss Challenge Method,' it is said. The Government need not have to invest any amount other than making the land available to the project and the bidder, who quotes least extent of the land, will be awarded the contract. The bidder will develop the land for commercial purpose and recover his investment.
