HYDERABAD: The surrounding municipalities will soon be on a par with the State capital if the plans of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to beautify and upgrade their infrastructure take shape. To begin with, the HUDA is ready to develop at least one major park in each of the 10 municipalities to address the recreation and lung space requirements of residents. Preliminary work of identifying the land for the parks has already begun Now, all major parks are in the Necklace Road and on the Tank Bund forcing people from city outskirts to commute long distances. "It's time the municipalities too had such facilities. HUDA offered to develop the parks provided the municipal authorities identify and hand over the land. Land ranging from two to four acres had been earmarked in each municipality, " said the HUDA Chairman D. Sudheer Reddy.
Sites for parks
Work on parks will commence in February. The Chinnathallakunta park in the Rajendranagar Municipality, developed following an assurance given by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy during the `Nagara baata' programme, is ready for inauguration. As many as 15 parks would be developed at a cost of Rs. 100 crores. The parks in LB Nagar, Rajendranagar, Uppal, Kapra, Kukatpally and Serlingampally would be taken up first. The HUDA would also develop a major park in Narayanaguda, in the erstwhile distillery land handed over to the Government, at a cost of Rs. 10 crores, Mr. Reddy said.
Plan for roads
HUDA would also develop new roads apart from widening the existing ones in the 10 municipalities, Mr. Reddy added. HUDA Chief Engineer Vivek Deshmukh said that an action plan for this had been prepared and officers from all municipalities had been drafted to identify the areas. Work would commence once the municipalities complete the land acquisition process. "We are awaiting response from the municipalities."
Flyovers in city
HUDA is also considering construction of flyovers in highly congested areas in the city. The flyovers under consideration are Moosarambagh junction to fruit market in Dilsukhnagar, and one each at Uppal and Habsiguda junctions. A representation had been made to HUDA to construct a flyover at Langer Houz too, according to Mr. Sudheer Reddy. Mr. Reddy said the proposed parks, roads and flyovers would cost about Rs.250 crores and HUDA was planning to mobilise funds through auction of its 220 plots in the city and 60 plots in Nandagiri Hills. These were expected to generate Rs. 80 crores to Rs. 100 crores. The auction of the Shamshabad HUDA layout, expected to yield Rs.150 crores, would be taken up in three months.
