Kochi
Attending conferences and deliberating on important points is all right as long as these things add up to support one's aim. All the talks here would be a waste if not followed up, said Admiral O.S. Dawson, former Chief of Naval Staff, during his address at the inaugural conference of the Indian Society of Toxicology in Kochi on Monday. Full of wit and humour, his speech was sprinkled with anecdotes from his service in the Navy and the wars that he was part of. Admiral Dawson endeared himself to the audience with his natural charm. Just when the inaugural session was getting over and people started deserting their places, he rushed up to the mike to say another joke. The punch-line was that in a conference a speaker, at the end of his lecture, found only one person sitting and listening to him. When he hastened to thank the person for listening to him, pat came the reply "that's ok. I'm the next speaker."
