TIRUPATI: Coinciding with World AIDS Day, the Academy of Gandhian Studies (AGS), a Tirupati-based organisation has taken up the task of training teachers to enable them to spread the message of HIV/AIDS to the younger generation. The project, taken up under the aegis of `Plan International' as part of the Global Movement for Children, is aimed at training 5,000 teachers spread over 84 places this year. Twenty voluntary organisations have been roped in. The AGS, along with Tirupati Jaycees, will be providing training to 350 teachers to help them enlighten 10,000-odd students. At a media conference on Monday, AGS secretary G. Sivarama Murthy and Jaycees president E. Bhaktavatsalam said an action plan would be drafted exclusively for the benefit of children and the message disseminated in the form of a lesson, aptly titled `Jeevitham kosam paatam.' Indian Jaycees national trainer G.L. Manohar said the schools would be told to conduct rallies with students' participation in their respective localities, instead of having a common venue, in order to ensure greater percolation of the message. As part of the programme, the AGS would also work towards preventing discrimination against HIV-affected children. AGS director G Gopalakrishna Murthy also took part.
