The Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, announced a cash award of Rs. 10,000 each to the two night patrolmen, R. Suresh Gandhi and Kalyanasundaram, for their timely action in alerting their higher-ups after noticing water flowing above the danger mark in two minor bridges between Kattur and Pullampadi in the early hours of Thursday, thereby averting a disaster. The Minister who inspected the damaged track between Kattur and Pullampadi on Saturday afternoon appreciated night patrolman Kalyanasundaram, who was present at the spot, for having saved the lives of thousands of passengers by his swift action. Mr. Velu also appreciated Suresh Gandhi, after the latter was called to the divisional office here. The Minister announced a group award of Rs. 50,000 for the railway team, which was involved in track restoration work.
